Accidental calling of favorites on hang up on my iPhone

For the last year or so, I've had a problem where I go to end a call which is over by clicking end call, but the other person hangs up first, and the screen change back to the "favorites" or "Recent calls" list, causing me to initiate a call with whoever was below the end call button. I have an iPhone 11, and this never happened with my previous iPhones. It seems something must have changed around that time.

Any advice on how to prevent this from happening? The person who is 8th on my favorites list is getting kind of annoyed.

This is iOS 17+ only, temporary workaround. It's not perfect and has its own limit.

At least you won't call someone accidently by hanging up little too late.

1. Open Shortcuts app (It's integrated in iOS)

2. Tap "Automation" at the bottom of the screen

3. Tap "New Automation".

4. Scroll down and tap "App".

5. Tap "Choose" and select "Phone" then "Done".

6. Unmark "Is Opened" and mark "Is Closed". (Make sure ONLY "Is Closed" is marked.)

7. Mark "Run immediately"

8. Tap "Next" at the top right.

9. On the screen, tap "New Blank Automation".

10. Tap "Add Action".

11. Type in "go to" in the search box and tap "Go to Home Screen" that pops up below.

12. Tap "Done".

That's it.

Now when you call someone, the screen immediately goes to home screen, preventing

accidental calling from favorite or recent list.

If you want to go back to phone app during call just tap the green phone icon at

top-left. It will still go back to home screen when the call ends by either side.

There needs to be a simple 1 second wait time before another call can be placed. Or even more simple, make the screen inert for 1 second after a call ends/drops. This is a serious issue that needs to be fixed. We don’t always talk with the phone to our ear. I work on nighttime emergency response and on DOZENS of occasions I have woken people up who desperately needed that sleep. PLEASE SEND THIS UP THE LADDER

Meanwhile, don't be in such a hurry to end the call. Wait a second to see if the other person has ended the call. Or, use the side button.

Like has been said before but should be stressed again: the truly annonying part is that you cannot undo the placed call - I’m pretty sure there used to be a slight delay so you could hang up a misplaced call in earlier iOS:s. Now it immediatly goes through or creates a push notification, and then an unnecessary callback and need for an explanation etc.

If you hang up immediately, it never shows on the other end. I know that because if I'm not paying attention, I sometimes tap a Recent call entry instead of swiping to delete it. It's never been a problem to just end the call immediately.

If Apple fixed this first, there would be much less of a need to also fix the (equally idiotic) return-to-favourites-when-other-party-hangs up design flaw.

Or, you could just end the call using the button on the side.

Apple this unacceptable if you really worried about your Apple Customers its important to fix this annoying thing immediately this question was posted on Jan 2022 and i am still facing the same issue even now it very frustrating and your so called solution of using the side lock button doesnt help its not a solution that we are ready to change to.

Its a simple solution after the call has ended increase the time of the screen showing the total time spoken that way we need not accidently touch our screens to end the call and dial somebody from the list (Favorites or Recent) .

expecting an early action on this

Meanwhile, you can end the call without calling anyone else by using the powerbutton.

• This is a very frustrating issue. Below is a temporary fix I follow:
Create 2 dummy contacts with invalid telephone numbers
• Add these 2 dummy entries to the favorite list so that the position is right below the End-Call red button.
• If you accidentally click these dummy entries, the call will not go through.
Not an elegant solution. But it is better than disturbing someone by mistake.

So much easier than just using the button on the side of the phone.....

IIdrisSeabright,

You've suggested that more than once. Based on this suggestion, I don't think you fully comprehend the actual problem/issue, because your suggestion will not work. I suggest you pause and re-read the problem and re-think your suggested solution.

WHY WON'T IT WORK?

What if both callers took the advice of "Wait a second to see if the other person has ended the call"? How would that play out? Sounds like a stalemate to me. Eventually, one or both callers would press the END CALL button and at that moment, you have the same problem.

Waiting a few seconds won't fix the problem. The problem is occurs when one caller hits the END-CALL button a fraction of a second after the other caller does. It the timing between the two callers.

Once you both say "good-bye", one of the callers must hit the END-CALL button. In some cases, you can both hit the END-CALL (at roughly the same time) and there is no consequence. But in other cases, one caller hit this button just a fraction of a second after the other caller hit the button, and this is where the problem occurs. A split second before the 2nd caller's finger touches the screen to hit the END CALL button, the screen changes (but there was not enough time to notice and stop the finger that was just millimeters from the button). The damage is done... As the call ends and the phone is going back to the previous screen (recents/favorites) the 2nd caller has just tapped the screen and initiated a new phone call.

There is no practical way to avoid this today. If waiting 3 seconds is the best advice, and other caller also waits 3 seconds, then you still have the exact same issue. Namely, that when one caller hits END-CALL a fraction of a second after the other caller hits END-CALL the problem occurs.

Lastly, I did take your advice about sending feedback to Apple: Here's what I said in the comment section:

Lengthy explanation. But there's a Apple Community Topic describing the problem with 2883 "ME TOO"s.
