Accidental calling of favorites on hang up on my iPhone

For the last year or so, I've had a problem where I go to end a call which is over by clicking end call, but the other person hangs up first, and the screen change back to the "favorites" or "Recent calls" list, causing me to initiate a call with whoever was below the end call button. I have an iPhone 11, and this never happened with my previous iPhones. It seems something must have changed around that time.

Any advice on how to prevent this from happening? The person who is 8th on my favorites list is getting kind of annoyed.

This is iOS 17+ only, temporary workaround. It's not perfect and has its own limit.

At least you won't call someone accidently by hanging up little too late.

1. Open Shortcuts app (It's integrated in iOS)

2. Tap "Automation" at the bottom of the screen

3. Tap "New Automation".

4. Scroll down and tap "App".

5. Tap "Choose" and select "Phone" then "Done".

6. Unmark "Is Opened" and mark "Is Closed". (Make sure ONLY "Is Closed" is marked.)

7. Mark "Run immediately"

8. Tap "Next" at the top right.

9. On the screen, tap "New Blank Automation".

10. Tap "Add Action".

11. Type in "go to" in the search box and tap "Go to Home Screen" that pops up below.

12. Tap "Done".

That's it.

Now when you call someone, the screen immediately goes to home screen, preventing

accidental calling from favorite or recent list.

If you want to go back to phone app during call just tap the green phone icon at

top-left. It will still go back to home screen when the call ends by either side.

This has been issue for years now, im running construction business with iphone and most of the time you want to hang up screen changes because other person was quicker so your call screen is overlaying recent calls..

solution is so simple, it would take couple hours for apple to fix and release new update.

when answering or calling, it should keep home screen behind calling screen automatically, or keep calling screen while we hit red button or swipe, dont turn off screen automatically please, causing to accidentally tap whatever us behind the call screen. Call goes thru everytime even from the tap..

I'm having this problem every day and often multiple times a day. I am not sure when it started, but it seems like it's been sometime in the last few months. This is a serious problem, especially if you have people in your favorites list who are in different time zones. Accidental calls are always a frustration for the person being called, but if my attempt to hang up on a at 7:30 a.m. eastern time results in me accidently calling and waking up someone in California at 4:30 a.m. their time, the ramifications can be much worse than an inconvenience. If the person is in need of rest in order to be sharp for a critical court hearing or meeting that day, I cold have blown it for them and their clients. This is something that needs to be fixed.

PLEASE FIX THIS....It happens multiple time's per week...you go to hit the end call button but the screen disappears at the same time bc the other person hung up faster...you then click one of your favorites by accident...When a call ends, it should close out the phone app all together and you should be looking at your home screen after a call...PLEASE FIX THIS

The fear of hitting the end button is real. I have myself entered in my favorites list in the position that aligns with the end button. But that only works if your favorites are pulled to the top of the list. The phone automatically goes to the screen you were on, so I accidentally call as many people in my recent list as I do favorites. All my previous phones would revert to the Home Screen and this problem didn’t exist.

I have this problem for many years. Not only when someone just ends the call at the moment you want to, but also when the phone screen is left on when you lay down the iphone and next time you pick up the phone, face is recognized, it opens the last screen and your thumb is accidentally touching the screen and dialing.

I believe this should be very easy to solve, either by a confirmation popping up when you touch a recent caller or someone in your phone or favorites list, saying "Confirm you want to call John Doe?" or by limiting the selection area on the screen using a button to call someone, for example:

Maybe both options should then be available, so anyone can select their preference. Just a note: picture is was picked randomly from the internet as an example only. Oh, and I leave the design to Apple...

There’s nobody listening to us. This problem did not exist several updates back. We wait till Apple has enough complaints to recognize this problem. How did this get through a Beta test?

This is AWFUL, it needs fixing ASAP!!!
I can’t believe that this is ok with anyone. Please do something about this problem. I’ve never considered switching from my iPhone but this is so irritating, I’m considering it.

Have you given your feedback to Apple? They are the only ones who can "do something". The more people who submit feedback, the more likely it is that something will change.
