Accidental calling of favorites on hang up on my iPhone

For the last year or so, I've had a problem where I go to end a call which is over by clicking end call, but the other person hangs up first, and the screen change back to the "favorites" or "Recent calls" list, causing me to initiate a call with whoever was below the end call button. I have an iPhone 11, and this never happened with my previous iPhones. It seems something must have changed around that time.

Any advice on how to prevent this from happening? The person who is 8th on my favorites list is getting kind of annoyed.

PLEASE FIX THIS....It happens multiple time's per week...you go to hit the end call button but the screen disappears at the same time bc the other person hung up faster...you then click one of your favorites by accident...When a call ends, it should close out the phone app all together and you should be looking at your home screen after a call...PLEASE FIX THIS

Reposting what I sent to a similar thread because this flaw is frustrating:

Found a workaround until Apple adds the delay back...

Go to Settings > Siri & Search > Call Hang Up > Turn on

You can now say "Hey siri, hang up" at the end of a call.

Whoever you're talking to will obv hear it, so I wouldn't use it for calls other than family and friends, but a late night call to the wife will no longer end with accidental calls to co-workers from the favorites screen.

FWIW, the side lock button to hang up is hit or miss for me (mostly miss) and no, I've not got it disabled.

I have had the exact same problem and has found no solution online. I ended up creating two fake contacts in my phone called “misdial thwarted” 1&2 and then I put those two contacts on my favorite list, positioned in that 7th and 8th spot so they will fall right under the end call button. It’s not fool proof, if you’ve scrolled down your favorite list before the call that you are now ending, but it is pretty helpful. I do wish Apple would come up with a solution to this

My work-around to this ANNOYING issue is to add my own number as a favorite right where the hangup/dial button is. On my phone that's 9th place from top. That way if I mis dial my favorite, it will be just me :-)

I would suggest a possible solution for Apple:

Revert the screen back to something else other than our favorites after call disconnect.

I’m having the same issue. I hang up and then touch the screen and accidentally call someone on my favorites list. I’ve created a workaround. When you hang up a call the phone goes to the last tab you were on: favorites, recents, contacts, etc. I’m now starting all calls from the contacts screen so when I hang up it goes back to the contacts screen. Touching the contacts screen opens a contact, but it doesn’t call them. To get my “favorites” to the top of the contacts list, I put an “AA” in front of the last name. Now if I accidentally touch the “touch” screen the phone doesn’t call someone. I won’t use the favorites or recents screen again until Apple fixes the issue.

This has become so annoying. I’m accidentally dialing people in my recents multiple times per day. I just came back to iPhone after leaving them for two years. This is making me regret that decision. This can easily be fixed by either A.) making the call function from recents a swipe instead of a tap, or B.) defaulting to the Home Screen after a call. The call function is TOO SENSITIVE. Please Apple, this is is simple. Fix it! Tip: I’ve had to start training myself to dial out of messages instead of recents. It’s been working so far. But on a phone this smart, I shouldn’t need a work around.
