Accidental calling of favorites on hang up on my iPhone

For the last year or so, I've had a problem where I go to end a call which is over by clicking end call, but the other person hangs up first, and the screen change back to the "favorites" or "Recent calls" list, causing me to initiate a call with whoever was below the end call button. I have an iPhone 11, and this never happened with my previous iPhones. It seems something must have changed around that time.

Any advice on how to prevent this from happening? The person who is 8th on my favorites list is getting kind of annoyed.

This is iOS 17+ only, temporary workaround. It's not perfect and has its own limit.

At least you won't call someone accidently by hanging up little too late.

1. Open Shortcuts app (It's integrated in iOS)

2. Tap "Automation" at the bottom of the screen

3. Tap "New Automation".

4. Scroll down and tap "App".

5. Tap "Choose" and select "Phone" then "Done".

6. Unmark "Is Opened" and mark "Is Closed". (Make sure ONLY "Is Closed" is marked.)

7. Mark "Run immediately"

8. Tap "Next" at the top right.

9. On the screen, tap "New Blank Automation".

10. Tap "Add Action".

11. Type in "go to" in the search box and tap "Go to Home Screen" that pops up below.

12. Tap "Done".

That's it.

Now when you call someone, the screen immediately goes to home screen, preventing

accidental calling from favorite or recent list.

If you want to go back to phone app during call just tap the green phone icon at

top-left. It will still go back to home screen when the call ends by either side.

Still an issue in 2023!!!!!!!

This is so unprofessional. I’m surprised the CEO or board members are not complaining about this as well. My family switched from android several years ago, and now this issue has them thinking about switching back to android.

Devs: show a call ended screen for one second after either party hangs up. If a user wants to close the screen early, they can swipe up to go to the Home Screen.

I am on the east coast. I accidentally dialed someone on the west coast who was recovering from surgery and needed a ton of sleep. I woke them up. This is a BIG problem Apple. I was so happy to upgrade from iPhone 7 to iPhone 14 but this accidental dial thing is not good. Here's how it unfolds for me. I miss a call. So I return the call by using "RECENTS." When I am done the call, my thumb starts moving toward the red circle that will hang up my call. The person on the other end hangs up a quarter second before I do and the current screen disappears and the RECENTS screen is now on top. So now my thumb hits a random number from RECENTS and now I'm calling someone who I did not want to call. It fills me with rage because it makes me look like a total buffoon. FIX this Apple.

Using iPhone 14 in August 2023…still with the stupid calling of random people when ending a call and the other person ends the call first. Any fixes coming?

This is a user-to-user forum. No one participating here would know Apple's plans for the future. Also, Apple doesn't read here for feedback or suggestions. You can, however, let them know your thoughts here:

I respectfully disagree.

First of all, customers 'should' come here first, before filing a suggestion or bug report. Because often, the answer is simple (e.g. there is a setting that resolves the issue). We probably agree on that.

But It gets down to the amount of work a customer is willing to do, weighed against the likelihood of resolving his issue anytime soon. By the time the customer is done reading dozens of suggestions from both novice and experts, none of which resolve the issue, he's probably exhausted as much effort as he is going to put into this issue. He clicks the ME TOO button, noting that there are hundreds of users that came here with the same problem, and he believes there are probably 1000-times that number that didn't bother to come here -- all having the same problem. There's some comfort there!

Apple is way to smart to ignore threads where the ME TOO button is clicked hundreds of times. If they ignored this, they'd be ignoring a resource they created. I don't think they are that ignorant. They may tell people to "file a suggestion", but if they'd be crazy to ignore the high ME TOO threads here.

You may certainly do that. However, I'm not stating an opinion but rather a fact as told to me by Apple employees.

There are occasions when there is a particular issue that a specific group at Apple is looking into, that they will search the forums for examples of the issue and even reach out to users. But, no, there is no group of people who are reading through the forums and documenting suggestions and feedback. They simply don't have time.

And, in the time it took you to compose this post, you could have submitted feedback to Apple.

Yes, that is the purpose of the forum: for users to provide answers to other users.
