Keynote to movie

Suddenly Keynote will not export my presentations to movies!

I'm using OSX Monterey with Keynote 11.2 on an M1 MacBook Pro.

Does anyone know why a Keynote file will not export to movie using a slideshow recording?

Hello Chris,

Thanks for that info and for choosing the Apple Support Communities. If we understand correctly, you are unable to export a Keynote presentation to iMovie on your Mac, as you get an error message. First, try running First Aid on your hard drive with the built in Disk Utility tool, as this can correct simple issues like you're experiencing.

How to repair a Mac disk with Disk Utility

Next, use safe mode to start up your Mac as it does the following things:

  • Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed
  • Loads only required kernel extensions
  • Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically
  • Disables user-installed fonts
  • Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

Log in to your user account and test the issue while in safe mode and then restart normally and test the issue again.

I have similar issues.

Problems Recording.

-- Recording does not play when Play Recorded Slideshow; only the last slide played is shown. I can go back to the first slides, but they do not advance as in the presentation, and there are no builds. There is an embedded QuickTime movie in the presentation-- this does not play within the recorded file.

-- Can not export Recording to movie; I thought these animations and builds would not play in the preview mode, so I get a similar error message when I attempt to export. See attached screenshot.

Problems with Recording mode interface:

--Differing time remaining clock between Rehearse Slideshow and Record Slideshow; the Rehearse Slideshow can be set to the time remaining clock-- which is vital since I am trying to coordinate the slide with the video. I can not have the time remaining clock set (or even the time-lapsed clock) set or work automatically in the recording mode. This makes coordination slide/video near impossible.

Everything works fine as a regular 'from Keynote" presentation.

This is a long presentation (126 minutes). I do not know if that is the issue. I have made short test recordings as well in case the size of the file was the issue.

This presentation was first presented at the end of last year-- I have been editing it and prepping it for distribution for more than a month now. It is part of a paid presentation vital to the Not-For-Profit organization for which I am the director. I need to turn this around promptly.

I have been a Mac user since 1986. I have used Keynote since its inception. Be well and be safe, and thank you for your assistance.

John

I have exactly the same problem (MacBook Pro 15" 2018, macOS Big Sur 11.6.3, Keynote 11.2). I tried the fixes recommended below and they made no difference.

I've wrestled for days with this. Without this, I cannot manually customize the timings in the slide show. The only workaround is to pull the movie into Final Cut and customize them there — a real time consumer.

We need a fix for this. Thank you.

Hi Mr community specialist, I'm pretty fed up with Apple always assuming that the faults lie with their users and sending off a pat answer that usually entails a huge amount of my time being wasted!

Apple have totally taken their eye off the ball with Keynote and failed their professional users who were the people who put Apple where they are.

I went back to the previous version of Keynote, which I fortunately had kept a copy, (anticipating that there would be issues with the new one), and the previous version of Keynote, (the one I had supposedly 'upgraded' from), worked perfectly.

So please will someone get the message through to employees with authority that they Apple need to do better!

Yours, very disgruntled,
