Push notification error

I am receiving whatsapp messages only when i open the app. There is a warning message when i go to notification settings on whatsapp which asks me to enable the push notifications. I tried to enable the push notifications via settings but unfortunately whatsapp is not there in the notification style. I tried to reset settings as well. But nothing is working. Please advise.
