Cloud Library (Apple Music) not syncing properly from Mac to iOS/iPadOS devices

I have an Apple Music subscription and I'm using my cloud music library on all my devices. After upgrading from macOS Big Sur to macOS Monterey 12.1 (and iOS/iPadOS 15.2/15.2.1), my music library is not syncing as it should from Mac to iOS/iPadOS/iCloud.


The following actions are no longer updating my library on iOS/iPadOS/iCloud:


  • Deleting an album/playlist on Mac
  • Rating songs with stars on Mac


When I sync my library manually on Mac (File > Library > Update Cloud Library), any of the two actions mentioned above are reverted: the albums I deleted are added back to the Music app on my Mac and my previous ratings are not visible anymore.


The actions below work fine:


  • Adding music to my library on Mac (gets added on iOS/iPadOS/iCloud as it should)
  • Creating a playlist on Mac (gets added on iOS/iPadOS/iCloud as it should)


Any action works correctly on the iOS/iPadOS -> Mac direction: when I do something on my iPhone or iPad it gets synced to my Mac (rating songs, adding/deleting albums, etc.).


This is a recent problem which didn't exist before. I've seen people sharing here Mac/iOS syncing issues, but I'm not sure they cover these specific actions. Anyone experiencing something similar?

Me too. Issue appears to be fixed with MacOS 12.4.


Hooray.


Both star ratings & album artwork changed on my Mac are updating to iPadOS and iOS devices.

Okay, so...I've tested it this morning on my Mac and it seems resolved for me, at least, even despite there not being a macOS update yet. I deleted an album I no longer wanted and it stayed gone, and I made metadata changes to another album and removed some of the tracks, and the changes seem to have stuck, even after updating my iCloud Music Library a few times and shutting down and relaunching the Music app. Hallelujah!

My experience with this situation is that it goes back and forth between working properly and then not working properly. Seems like half the time, I make edits on my MacBook Pro's Music app and the changes stick, but then the next time I do so a few weeks later, it's back to not working. Terribly frustrating. I'm using a MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2018) running Monterey 12.3, and an iPhone 12 (current iOS) as my only two devices using my Apple Music account. Here's hoping the new native Music app will help...geez.

This is extremely frustrating. I rely on apple music and icloud to work. And its not. I pay several hundred dollars for itunes match, apple music, and icloud library. I buy music. the library wont sync. I need a refund. I need this fixed. If I cant get it fixed, I will leave apple music and keep music in another software without using apple. there was nothing wrong with itunes. Since the music app, nothing is working right.

It's off and on for me, personally. Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't. Very inconsistent.

It wasn't saving changes just a couple of weekends ago, then yesterday, I gave it a shot and it just worked suddenly – no reverting back of the changes I made. I'm completely baffled by this. There have been no recent updates to affect anything, so anyone's guess is as good as mine! 🤯


I just tried again – made a few song title metadata changes, and they seemed to stick. 🤷‍♂️

I've had this problem for months, too.


It was "fixed" for a couple days after the last point release of Monterey (12.3.1) but the day after I celebrated being able to edit playlists on my Mac w/o losing the changes, the problem came back and hasn't gone away.


So I hope the release of this week's RC does fix the problem but it'll need to work for more than a few days before you can know for sure.
