Mac Waking From Sleep Randomly
Hi, I have an ongoing issue with my Mac Mini. This is an inconsistent issue so it is making it hard to isolate the problem.
Set-Up
Mac Mini 2018 11.6.2
Samsung Monitor connected via Thunderbolt to Displayport
2nd Monitor AOC connected via HDMI to HDMI.
Peripherals include USB audio interface and USB hub with an external hard drive, thumb drives.
Apple Magic Keyboard (Bluetooth)
Logi M570 (Bluetooth Logitech USB Unifying Receiver)
The Issue
After sleeping the Mac my displays and peripherals all go into standby mode. Often after about 30 seconds the Mac “Semi Wakes” from sleep. Peripherals power up, hard drives spin, my main Samsung monitor wakes. (2nd monitor does not.) No image is displayed on the monitor. The Mac goes back to sleep seconds later and the monitor goes back to stand by mode. This process repeats in a loop.
Troubleshooting
I’ve isolated the issue to the Samsung monitor connected via Thunderbolt to Display Port. I unplugged everything else and the issue persists. The issue doesn’t happen if the monitor is powered off.
I thought perhaps the issue was software related so, I tried a test admin account and the issue wasn’t happening there, best I could tell.
I removed all the LaunchAgents and Daemons from the main user account this seemed to resolve the issue but further time and testing is needed.
I ran pmset to get the log and noticed com.bombich.ccchelper is mentioned a lot helper for Carbon Copy Cloner a backup software I use. I have tasks scheduled to run but not at the times that the Mac is seeming to wake so this might be a red herring. My thought was as the monitor is connected to a Thunderbolt port and powered on (even in standby mode) the Mac or software was seeing it as a potential disk to investigate and mount. The next step might be to connect the Samsung monitor via HDMI to HDMI and 2nd monitor to Thunderbolt to HDMI to see if the problem is the same with the monitors switched.
I’d appreciate any guidance on further steps to take. I’ve spoken with Apple support and they advised the test user account and then a full OS reinstall as the next option. I can't upgrade OS due to software compatibility issues. I’d like to avoid this if possible because the install is only a couple of weeks old and the machine is used day to day for work. I was disappointed that they didn’t want to discuss any log findings and work the problem that way but I understand they have procedures to follow.
