So, I've been operating on around 3 GB of storage space for a while now, so I had to delete a lot of my applications. Now I'm at 12 GB.
But, I showed this to my friends and they said that the "Other" category of storage space shouldn't be taking up so much space. It's 75.44 GB. I never thought much of it but it did seem kinda large.

I understand what Other is but I don't know how to go about cleaning it or even know where to start finding a solution for it. I looked around in the Library folder and other system files but I didn't see anything that looked particularly OK to delete.
How do I begin to reduce Other's storage space?

Try something like OmniDiskSweeper for a GUI to get a good look at itemized file size and location:

If you are comfortable with using the Terminal.app you can use the command line to drill down on storage—
General Volume size, you can see, copy & paste:
diskutil list internal
For itemized details:
File size— list the items in the home folder with the sizes, including invisible items, copy & paste:
sudo du -h -d 1 ~/
File size—will list the items in root with the sizes, including invisible items, copy & paste:
sudo du -h -d 1 /
