Charter font italic and bold italic: thins on letters e, g and s not printing properly

Mac OS Monterey 12.0.1 on a MacBook Pro 14" M1 Pro AND on a 2017 intel iMac running the same operating system...

With Charter font italic and bold italic the thins on letters e, g and s are not printing properly (the thins are too thin, so that the letters look broken), though they look OK when using Charter Black italic. It doesn't matter what the font size is, the letters e, g and s still break.

I've tested this in Apple Pages and in MS Word, printing directly from both programs to a Xerox Phaser 7300 and to a Brother MFC-7360N (yes, I know they are old printers, but they work), and by creating a pdf from both programs and printing from that.

Zooming in onscreen, the letters look OK in the pdfs in both Preview and PDF Expert.

This is probably related to the issue noted here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251111480

But is using AirPrint the only solution? Any other ideas?

Thanks in advance.
