Hi,
I am charging my iPad Pro 2020 with new apple 20w usb c adapter which I got new from Walmart. iPad or iPhone is not getting hot and charger pins are also not getting hot. Only adapter gets hot. Is it normal ?
is May be due to the fact that it might not be Apple Original adapter ? Or is it normal with apple adapters as well ?

Thanks, but I am having the issues like it disconnects for few seconds after every few minutes. Not sure if it’s apple technology to disconnect to make It cooler when it’s getting hotter. But I guess I have not seen this behaviour earlier with any apple adapter. I am thinking of returning it and buying from Best Buy. I hope Best Buy keeps original apple accessories

Power Adapters may become warm (or very warm) when charging devices - but should never become to hot to touch.
Beware that some third-party Power Adapters, in particular “economy” items from less reputable sources, may not be manufactured to Apple OEM standards - and perhaps lack many of the built-in protections that you might expect from better equipment.
A general observation for contemplation…
Use of a cheap Power Adapter is false economy when you consider the relative cost of the device that you may be charging. The Power Adapter has the capacity to cause irreparable damage to anything to which it is connected; poor power regulation, or an electronic/electrical fault, can destroy connected devices. Device warranties will usually not cover consequential damage.

thanks for helpful response. It’s not too hot to touch. So any way I can identify if it’s genuine apple adapter or not ? I have watched many videos but still looking for some better suggestion on how to identify
Did you look at the underside where the plug prongs are? On my UK one underneath one of the prongs (will obviously be different since you have a US one, but still maybe similar), there is an Apple logo and some tiny writing, and I doubt Walmart would have gone so far to sell a 20w USB-C adapter, that is a Apple counterfeit to such an extent.
Insofar as is possible to tell - from the markings on the bottom - you appear to have a genuine Apple 20W USB Power Adapter.
Your Power Adapter becoming warm is entirely normal, in particular when charging your iPad at its maximum rate. Once your iPad has achieved +80% of its full charge, you can expect charing to become slower (this is by design to protect the iPad battery) and for the Power Adapter to run cooler.
As previously outlined, the Power Adapter becoming warm (or very warm) during charging is entirely normal. If, however, it is too hot to comfortably hold, it may require examination and testing by an Apple technician.
It is normal, it is providing a relatively high wattage. My Apple 20W USB-C adapter does this too (UK), and obviously, power adapters aren’t going to start having fans for cooling!

Best Buy have a partnership with Apple so… But my 20w adapter has never just disconnected for a few seconds over the past few months. So I would definitely return it.
