Using FaceTime and iMessage during long travel (more than 30 days) involving new temporary SIM card
Hello,
I am currently traveling for 2 months away from my home country of Canada. As a result of my travel, I switched to a new SIM card local to the country where I will be for this duration of 2 months.
For the first 30 days of my travel, Apple would allow me to keep on using my Canadian number for FaceTime and iMessage. However, it seems after 30 days, the numbers "expires" and Apple no longer allows me to keep on using my Canadian number for FaceTime and iMessage. For example, my brother tried reaching out to me on FaceTime and couldn't because his usual way of contacting me on FaceTime is to my Canadian number and now iPhone is using the new local (travel) number for FaceTime and iMessage.
I was wondering if there is a way to around this or at least maybe reactivate another 30 day grace period. I am not switching permanently to the new number, it's only temporary during travel. And I'm not sure why Apple would want to force its users to switch their FaceTime and iMessage numbers after 1 month of travel... Some people might have to travel for work for more than 1 month. WhatsApp for example doesn't force you to switch numbers after 1 month and I can still use my Canadian number on WhatsApp with no issue despite me traveling for more than a month now.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Best regards
