My old laptop on which I had iTunes crashed. On the new laptop, the itunes is forcing me to restore my iPhone to factory settings.

How do we make a fresh install of iTunes recognize the iPhone I have been using? I had an old laptop on which I had iTunes and used that to manage my iPhones . That old laptop crashed with no back up of drive. I got a new laptop, and did a fresh installation of iTunes.

This iTunes detects my iPhone but it is asking me to restore it factory settings. It says "iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPhone "iPhone name". Got to the summary tab in iPhone preferences and click Restore to restore this iPhone to factory settings."

See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - Apple Community. At this stage the best chance of rescuing any music on your iPhone would probably be to take out a subscription to Apple Music. Before trying to restore using iTunes see if you are able to backup to iCloud. Again this would minimise any loss of data.
