If you are wearing an Apple watch and have wrist detection enabled notifications will appear on your watch instead of your phone, unless the phone is unlocked.
If that isn’t what is happening try restarting your phone→Restart your iPhone - Apple Support

I didn’t until I upgraded to ios 15.2.1 and I am a beta tester. Really frustrating! Heres the fix!
1) disable focus by turning off Share Across All Devices
2) Go to settings-notifications
3)Tap scheduled summary and make a pretend schedule
4) go back out to notifications
5) scroll down to notification style
6) tap on each app and immediately delivery is now an option and bypasses the schedule. I did this 36 times. 🤦🏻♀️

Hi JoyGupt,
We understand you're missing notifications for messages on your iPhone since updating. Are you noticing the issue for certain contacts or all? Does the issue return immediately after restarting your iPhone? Have you checked your device to determine if the "Don Not Disturb" or "Focus" feature is turned on? When using the Focus feature, it will prevent certain notifications from appearing on your device. This article provides more information on the feature.
Use Focus on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

I started having the problem for notifications since 4-5 days ago for Whatsapp, Gmail, Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, Samsung Smartthings and no luck. I did some reset to my network settings, verify background app refresh and no luck. When someone sent me a message to whatsapp it appears only one check and I did not receive any notification but when I open my whatsapp I received it and people saw the 2 checks but when I just opened my whatsapp. I called Apple and we did some testings. Only solution is to delete applications and reinstall again. I did the test with one and it works but Im having a lot of apps. I checked if its better to do a backup on iTunes and do a restore as I can think apps is not copied, just downloading again so it can do the process automatically of removing and reinstalling? Very frustrating to deal with this.
Answer:
Hello, I fixed the issue just doing the reset option location & privacy.

Thanks but it has only happened for me since the later updates. Previously, I was getting notifications on both. How can I disable ‘wrist detection’ so I can get them on both?
No, you weren’t getting notifications on both. No one has ever gotten notifications on both with wrist detection on. Open the Watch app, go to Passcode, and you can turn off wrist detection. However, when you go to turn it off first read the display of the features that will be disabled with it off. If receiving notifications on your phone is more important than any of those features then continue and turn it off.
This is how I believe I solved it:
Go to Settings>Focus>Do Not Disturb>Home Screen> uncheck "Hide Notification Badges".
Go to Settings>Focus>Do Not Disturb>Lock Screen> check "Show on Lock Screen" under Silenced Notifications
I don’t think Apple will issue an update for this fix. I have had this issue for 3 months or so now. There is a fix. Reinstall all apps that you need to view notifications from. That worked for me. I receive all notifications now
I also had to go into my mail-notifications-customize notifications-gmail and turn alerts on
I wasn’t even getting my mail!

To adjust, notifications are coming up on watches but not on the phone while locked.
That is correct, and is by design. It’s how notifications have always worked since the release of the Watch, f you are wearing the watch and have Wrist Detection enabled.
Reset location and privacy settings
Reinstall works for me, but it seems that every apps has to be reinstalled this is a lot of work
I delete a few apps and reinstalled just to validate - it worked for WhatsApp - but not CBC news (as an example). I shouldn’t have to delete every app I have and reinstall. A few of my apps can’t be backed up as well and I don’t want to lose that data. Delete/reinstall is not a viable workaround.

Yes. It has been happening ever since iOS 15. I have done absolutely everything. Focus off. Sleep off. Both deleted. Reset. Changed notification for every single app. Making sure priority. It. Is. Still. Happening. This is nuts. Come on Apple. If I have to spend 40 hours doing your troubleshooting for you, I expect to be paid for time!
