Saving documents on my hard disk

I can't save documents on my new MacBook Pro hard disk. Whenever I direct documents there I get an error message. How can this be sorted?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities.

You cannot save files directly on the root disk (Macintosh HD) because of the read-only system volume: About the read-only system volume in macOS Catalina - Apple Support.

You need to save files to a location within your Home Folder.
