IMAC very slow and sometimes freezes.

Hi, my iMac (21.5 inch, 2017) is suddenly becoming super slow when boot up, lagging and sometimes freezing. Please help as I becoming very frustrated.

Before you do anything please ensure your Time Machine back up is working okay. The reason being is you are describing classic symptoms of a failing HD. After you have backed up, then take the computer to your local Apple Authorized Service Provide to be professionally diagnosed.


Finally, you bought a base model 21.5" model that was intended to do very light computing such as e-mail and basic web surfing however you are running professional grade applications. In short you bought the wrong machine for your needs and it will NEVER be fast unless you get an external SSD and use that as your primary drive. Another option is replacing it with a M1 based Mac mini or M1 based 24" iMac. If you decide to replace it, please get a machine with a minimum of 16 GB of RAM and the largest capacity SSD you can afford.
