I keep having this issue where I have my AirPods in, I hear a phone call come in or I can hear music when using them. But then I try to pick up a call and the other person can' hear me and I can't hear them.
It was also a problem when I was on a zoom call on my computer and in that instance I could hear others but they couldn't hear me. I don't know about face time.

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you are having issues using your AirPods when you make and receive calls on your device. Does the same thing occur when you use your AirPods to make regular phone calls using FaceTime or other messaging apps?
First make sure your iPhone is running the most updated iOS version available for it: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
Try resetting your AirPods next and then test them out afterwards: Reset your AirPods.
