App store doesnt have mojave in it. how do i reinstall it on imac and not loose my pictures and other stuff.

My computer is really slow and programs don’t come up like they should. When shutting down it dosen't have the circle twirling anymore and when starting up it shows under the apple logo that is already half loaded. I am afraid to install a backup that it would be crypt also. If i reboot and hold down the command and R will i loose all my data and pics when it is reloaded?
Only if a problem occurs. This is the reason for making a backup first.
