Safari background comes up black

With Mac OS 12.1 and Safari 15.2, after viewing several pages correctly, a page will come up with the background black. If the text is already black this makes it unreadable. I have resorted to using Brave instead but I miss the keychain integration.

Booting in safe mode, as suggested in a previous comment about this, did nothing. The Safari Technology Preview also has this problem. I tried emptying the Caches from the Develop menu and disabling all extensions and that did not help.

Hey David,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're having some issues pages appearing black in Safari.

Are you viewing them in Preview or does this happen on a webpage? Are you using Light Mode, Dark Mode or does this occur in both? If needed, reference How to use Dark Mode on your Mac.

The troubleshooting from If Safari displays a blank page or quits on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch may help as well.

Take care.
