Numbering photos iphone

what will happen to the numbering of the photos when the end of the series is reached (IMG_9999). ? Will my iphone then overwrite the first photos?

No. Your photos will not be overwritten. After you hit photo 9999 then then it will continue on to 10000 and beyond.
