Touch ID and Apple Watch both requiring me to re-enter password EVERY time.

I am not restarting my computer, nor shutting it down. I hav a new M1 Max MacBook Pro to replace my desktop Mac Pro. It is brand new and connected to three monitors. I do not close the lid to put it to sleep. When I come back in and tap a key on my bluetooth keyboard or track pad, I get messages on screen requiring me to type in my password to enable Touch ID and to enable waking it up with my Apple Watch (also newly purchased Series 7). Both are active and enable. NEITHER option works when I come back to my office to wake up the computer. Really sick of typing my password.

MacBook Pro (2020 and later)

Check your >System Preferences>Security&Privacy settings

There are several caveats Touch ID will not be accepted by macOS:

• If you restarted your Mac, or if you're not logged into your user account.

• If you have not unlocked your Mac for 48 hours.

• If you are trying to unlock Security & Privacy

• If you are trying to unlock Users & Groups Preferences (when FileVault is on)

• If 5 wrong fingerprint attempts

When you re-login is there a window that says the Mac restarted because of a problem? The asking for login to enable ID and Apple watch unlocking sure points to the mac restarting.

The windows will also give a button that says Report. If you click on that button a bigger window that gives info on why the restart occured. Ig you get such a window and press report copy the info and paste it here by pasting it in the text box for a reply in this forum click on the addition text icon. This is because the normal reply text box limits how much you can type.
