I received apple support today and they identified malware. It was necessary to download a malware remover program then scan the system to identify the problem. It has now been corrected. Thank you APPLE!!!

For those still looking for an answer (definitely not a malware problem) — this one helped me.

Reset Wifi/Network settings:

  1. Open System Preferences
  2. Open Network
  3. Highlight Wifi in the left hand side list
  4. Click the minus (-) button at the bottom of the connections list
  5. Restart your Mac
  6. Reopen Network preferences
  7. Click the plus (+) button at the bottom of the connections list
  8. Select wifi
  9. Turn Wifi on and connect to your preferred network
  10. Restart the Music App — hey presto!

I have the same error, though I can open the Apple Music app on my Mac - the error occurs when I click the user account icon button (other replies also haver this). I see the same error as shown in all the posts here. In addition, the only way I can quit Music once the error occurs is to do a 'Force quit' through the Apple menu.

I have just spent some time on the phone to Apple Support, and this is a known issue for which - at the moment (31st January) - there is apparently no fix. The support engineer took me through using a test account to login, then using Safe Mode, none of which worked. The next step was going to be re-installing Monterey - but we agreed that it might be prudent to wait a few days for a less invasive fix!

One other piece of context that might be relevant is that I signed up for a free trial of Apple One yesterday, prior to seeing this error. I have had an Apple Music subscription previously several months ago, but this was not current.

You explained nothing and just closed the THREAD. Why ? What is your reason to close this Thread ?

I contacted to Apple Support and they have no clue about Malware.

I just even reinstalled the OS as a fresh. Nothing help.

If it is true what you said, explain us steps by steps !

Can anyone help me how can I report him/her to apple ?

Thanks for expanding. I have tried all of these steps, but it does not work for me. When I contacted Apple Support I screen-shared with the Apple engineer (after it had been escalated to the Mac Team) and they took me through many more detailed steps that also failed to resolve the issue.

As I mentioned in my earlier post, this is a known issue and not - as far as the numerous Apple engineers were aware - due to malware. They had no information at the time (a couple of days ago) on when a fix would be made available, and the only course of action suggested was to reinstall Monterey - which I wasn't prepared to do, I would rather wait for the fix.

I really doubt a malware is the cause here as I’ve had this happen on my brand new MBP 14 that I just received yesterday and Apple Music was the first thing that I set up because I wanted to listen to music while I was retrieving all of my data and software.

So unless the malware comes from the factory in China (which is highly unlikely) I think the much more plausible cause is that this is just a software bug on Apple’s side.

Apple support assisted me (HOORAY!) after I was on the phone with them for 1.25 hours and advanced from basic support to the highest super user.

The first and second levels of engineering help were unsuccessful. I was passed to the media specialist who passed me to the superuser. He searched my preferences and settings and identified that malware had been attached to something that we downloaded which was interfering with all my Apple apps. (I couldn't open apple music, apple podcasts, apple books, or apple apps.)

With his assistance, I downloaded malware bytes malware remover and scanned the computer, which identified and removed the malware. Once that was completed, we restarted the system and VOILA, everything is back to normal.

Here is the link to the malware remover. We used the free version.

Good luck!!!

Thanks for the detailed response, and I'm glad this fixed the issue for you.

I've gone through the installation of Malwarebytes trial from your link, enabled full disk access and done a full scan. No malware was found, and the error in Music is still there.

I too went through various levels of Apple Support, and the Mac engineer I spoke to you did not suggest this - but did say there was a known issue in Monterey causing the problem. It is hard to know what to believe, but in my case it looks like malware is not the problem, sadly!

Hi, thanks for all contributions with 'fixes'.

I don't think I am alone, but none of these worked for me.

I suspect an underlying user account data problem that is not being handled properly by the underlying 'app.js' javascript library. I wish someone from the Apple Music development team would look at this and comment...anyone...?
