My iPhone 11 has frozen and won't turn on or off.

I've done the hard restart - Volume up, Volume down, Hold power button until Apple logo shows - and nothing changes. Same condition as before. I can call my phone and it rings, but nothing on the screen works. What to do now? Please advise!

I had to buy a new iPhone 12 today. That was costly! :-(
I will keep the frozen one and see if I can get it fixed somewhere.
I am now trying to load my iCloud data. When I connect it to iTunes in my iMac, it asks me if I want to "Setup as new iPhone" OR "Restore from backup" which is an old iPhone I had in 2018.
I guess I am doing this wrong. How do I download files from iCloud where everything is?

That’s really unfortunate, because it is easy to fix a frozen iPhone. Depending on your iPhone model:

On an iPhone 8 or later (including the original SE and SE 2020):

  • Press and quickly release VOLUME UP
  • Press and quickly release VOLUME DOWN
  • Hold the SIDE button until an Apple logo appears (15-30 seconds), ignoring "slide to power off"

The operative word here is QUICKLY; and try it a couple of times, the timing is a little tricky.

  • On an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus: Press and hold both the right Side and Volume Down buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
  • On an iPhone 6s and earlier, iPad, or iPod touch: Press and hold both the Home and the Top (or Side) buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

Oh, yes, the reason it is marked as Solved is because VBeckmann clicked the Solved button, so it solved it for them. Only the person who makes the first post in a thread can mark the thread as Solved.

I did as you suggested. RESTORED iPhone on iTunes 12.9.2.5 with OS10.14.3

Connected to my iMac.

It looked like something was working in iTunes for about an hour.

Still cannot swipe my iPhone. When I touch the power button, all I see a notification again, the time at top of screen, date, battery icon, etc.

Same as before and same as 4 days ago!

I need to scream! :-(

Lawrence,

I have spent days trying to fix this and I've done everything you mentioned plus more, if you read this thread.

And spent time with Apple Care staff. No one has been able to offer a solution why my iPhone will not swipe or respond to touch.

My phone store would not even give me any money for it. I'm getting my new 12 set up now and will try to find someone somewhere who might be able to physically repair the 11. The store told me if I get it fixed would still be worth $500 Cdn.

OK, did you have automatic iCloud backups enabled on the old phone? If you did, log in to your Apple ID on the new phone, and when you set it up it should give you the opportunity to restore the most recent iCloud backup.

You can use iCloud 2 ways, for backup and for sync. They are mutually exclusive. Anything that you sync to iCloud will be excluded from the backup. You can do both, of course. Restoring a backup restores iOS settings as well as app data that is not synced, then the phone will automatically download the apps that use that app data. After the restore of the backup completes the synced data will be restored to the phone.
