MiniDisplayPort to VGA Adapter replacement

I own a MiniDisplayPort to VGA Adapter which fits my MacBook Pro (2012). I recently mislaid this and went into a tail spin as I use this regularly. So I looked on Apples site and observed that the version I had was no longer available. At that point I became somewhat confused as am I correct in thinking I can still get one to fit my Mac but the adapter now has a Thunderbolt port connection instead that will still work with my Mac?

Thanks in advance

ThunderBolt and ThunderBolt-2 use the same connector as Mini DisplayPort.

ThunderBolt-3 and -4 use the same connector as USB-C.

USB-C can not be plugged directly into Mini DisplayPort

You're not mistaken, it's just that Apple has not sold them for a long time.

Your 2012 model MacBook Pro uses the "original" Thunderbolt port, but it was commonly referred to as "Mini DisplayPort" and the adapters are known by that name. I don't have that exact adapter, but it should work. Monoprice's mini-DP to HDMI adapter works on that model Mac, so it stands to reason the VGA adapter should also.

Apple no longer sells them, but you can buy mini-DP to VGA adapters from Monoprice. Just make sure the Mac end of the cable physically fits the port on your Mac.

Pay attention to the note: "Mini DisplayPort is not the same as Thunderbolt or Thunderbolt 2. They have the same shape, but use different symbols on the cable and port."
