Unable to search for photos from a specific date

I want to find all the photos taken on a specific date in any year.

For example, "all photos with the date stamp January 30 in any year"

When I search for "January 30" using the search field I get a couple of photos from January 30 (but not all of them) and a bunch that seem to be random selections.

The only way I can do this at the moment is to create 366 smart albums and have them all search each of the 20 years of photos for that specific date. That seems.... "suboptimal."

I can search for a date in Photos on my phone, why can't I seem to make it work on my Mac?

I've just done a few experiments.

I've found "30 January" works, where "January 30" doesn't. Give it a try.
