MacBook stuck on 2 factor ID for icloud

I recently updated my MacBook to Big Sur. I also had to change my iCloud password but this was done on my iPhone separately. Now when I’m trying to sign into my iCloud account on the MacBook, after entering the password the screen to put the 2 factor verification code pops up but it’s just a spinning wheel and won’t let me put in the verification code. I have updated the computer and restarted it multiple times. How else can I fix this?

Hello dare10,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand that you are trying to sign in to iCloud on your Mac after changing your password but there is a spinning wheel.

It sounds like you're going through the steps in What to do after you've changed your Apple ID or password which is great but have hit a snag along the way. Try the guidance in If an app freezes or quits unexpectedly on Mac which should help you locate and quit the app or process encountering an issue.

Take care.
