Wrist Detection and Tattoos

I have the Series 5 Nike watch and I prefer to wear my watch on my left wrist. Every second it asks me to enter my passcode, ends my workouts when I’m using the fitness tracker, and can’t do an accurate read with ECG.

I chatted with support numerous times and no one could tell me what the issue was. I ended up cracking the screen, so I thought it was that.

fast forward 2 years, I have the Series 7 Nike and the iPhone 13 & still have the same issues. I chatted AGAIN, and they had no idea why and wanted me to replace either my brand new phone or my brand new watch.

I finally decided to try on my right wrist with my new watch and the wrist detection works. I concluded that the wrist detection doesn’t work well if you have have tattoos ( I haven’t tested this with anyone with fair skin).

why hasn’t this technology been updated? It’s been YEARS, with multiple posts and (I’m sure) support inquires.

We can't answer that. We are not Apple. This is a user forum.

This issue has been known since the very first Apple Watch was released.
