Simultaneous audio home theater receiver and Airplay 2 speakers

I have an Apple TV hooked up to a Sony DH790 home theater receiver via HDMI and several Airplay 2 enabled Sonos speakers. If I group the Sonos speakers together using the Apple TV I can stream audio through the DH790 and Airplay speakers simultaneously with the YouTube and YouTube TV apps. If I try using any other apps (Spotify, Pandora, ESPN, Plex) I can stream to the Airplay speakers, but the DH790 speakers are silent even though the Receiver Speakers checkbox remains checked. Has anyone else observed this behavior? I'm trying to figure out if this is app or setting dependent. Thanks.

A: ”Video playback has one destination for audio, as far as Apple TV is concerned. Multi-room audio is for audio-only sources, such as music. If you want play audio from a video in two locations, then you’ll need audio equipment that is capable of doing that distribution, as the Apple TV won’t organize it that way.”
