Airplay (via iPad) cannot connect to Zoom (macbook pro)

I have long been able to screen share my iPad while in a zoom meeting on my macbook using the screenshare feature. Each of my devices are fully updated and I have attempted this on several different kinds of networks now including my home network– all of which once worked, but now do not– so I know this isn't a firewall issue. All devices are new enough to use airplay and once again, have successfully done so in the past. As an economics instructor, I rely on this feature to teach my hybrid classes so I can connect to the instructional technology in my classroom while broadcasting to my students over zoom. I see that this question has been asked numerous ways over the last 6 months but I see no sufficient answers. turning off the airplay receiver has not fixed the problem either.
