AppleTV streaming in Chrome

I watch AppleTV+ on my Lenova Laptop projected onto a big screen. I have Windows 10 and I am using the latest version of Chrome as the browser. Every time I watch a show, it intermittently freezes and the screen goes black. I have to exit full screen and then I see the error message: This Browser is Not Supported. You can watch AppleTV+ in Safari and Chrome. Or with the Apple TV app wherever it is available.

Sometimes I can get it restarted by just starting the show again. Sometimes I have to refresh the screen and sometimes I have to completely shut down AppleTV and start again. Sometimes it happens once and sometimes it happens 5 or more times. It has done this on Foundation and on Ted Lasso. I've tried clearing the cache and checking for Chrome updates. I don't have this issue with any other streaming service. My husband is now calling it CrappleTV. Any other suggestions?

Hello there Rhonwyn22,

Thanks for posting here on the Apple Support Communities! This is a place where other Apple users can submit questions or respond to others to help lend a hand. Let's take a closer look as we do our best to provide some additional insight.

We understand you're having some issues playing back Apple TV+ content on your Windows PC. To get started, are you specifically using the Apple TV application as shown here?

Microsoft Store - Apple TV

Does the same thing also happen while using the official app, or only while trying to view Apple TV content on your web browser? Also, make sure you have installed all available Windows updates as well.

In the meantime, if you don't use the external projector, do you still have any issues? Keep in mind that depending on the exact model of projector you're using and how it's connected to your PC, HDCP protected content may not allow playback.

Certainly keep us posted, we’re here for you every step of the way!

Take care.

Hello Rhonwyn22,

In that case, we'd suggest trying the app instead. Let us know how that works compared to just using a regular web browser. Keep in mind that if the video displays just fine on your PC's built-in display, then it still wouldn't necessarily be an issue with the website.

You may also want to test using other computers with the same projector if you continue to have issues.

Good luck, and take care!

It's pretty clear that your streaming service is not reliable in a chrome web browser and hasn't been for months. When paying for your services and following every instruction to watch something on it, it's incredibly frustrating to spend hours trying to make it work only to find you suggesting that we avoid the web browser. Your error message clearly states that your streaming service supports viewing in Chrome and Safari. The error message should thus not appear when playing something in a Chrome browser. If you're not on top of your service's behaviour in web browsers, simply don't state that you support it.

Hi,

I am using the Chrome browser to watch AppleTV+. I do not have an app on my laptop. I do not have this issue with any other streaming service, only AppleTV+. I stream shows from Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+, Hulu, HBOMax, Paramount+ with no issues. The projector is wired to the laptop so the wall screen is just another display.

Thanks!
