Safari opens and closes tabs by itself

Hello!

Safari has started reopening tabs that were closed a few seconds ago, and also closing or reloading tabs that have just been opened. If I open any tabs, safari closes them or reload. If I close tabs, safari will reopen them.

I checked my iMac for viruses and found nothing.

iMac 27" late 2013, macOS Catalina 10.15.7, Safari 15.4

Even weirder, the same problem occurred a few days later on my MacBook Pro 16" M1 Pro, macOS Monterey 12.3 Beta, Safari 15.4. But safari doesn't always work this way on a MacBook. Sometimes Safari works fine on a MacBook, sometimes it starts to close and open tabs like the one on iMac. Checked for viruses - no viruses.

I didn't find similar problems on the internet. Does anyone know what is causing this and how to get rid of this annoying problem?

I've had the same issues told above and I use safari to read multiple (100+) stories so you can imagine the pain of opening my phone to no tabs in a group or repeated tab deletions. Anyhow, I found a fix that has been working for me for the past hour (hopefully it holds up). In Settings, go to iCloud and un-tick Safari. This disables safari syncing with iCloud. Probably a pain if you take advantage of this function, but it will allow you to search in peace. Upvote if this helps you so we can help others!

Having the issue for months now on iPad where tabs close within seconds of being open. Sometimes have to reopen several times before they stay open. Really frustrating. Have not noticed purposely closed tabs reopening though n

This is driving me insane as well and so unreliable but I don’t want to go adding a million sites to my bookmarks just for needing it a couple of times. This never happened before. Mine also keeps freezing up and exiting out of safari if I try and reorder my open tabs

I’m having the exact same issue on my iPhone 11 Pro. I had almost 500 tabs open, a few days ago there were suddenly only 53, a day later they were all gone.

Now sometimes when I open a new tab it just closes randomly on its own. And the most recent 17 tabs I had open have all disappeared. Extremely frustrating!

I have the latest version of IOS but that installed months ago and this just cropped up within the last week.

I have Al so been experiencing this issue for months on my iPhone 13. Recently opened tabs will go away the next time I open safari, and also recently closed tabs will reappear multiple times and eventually go away after closing it a number of separate times. Very frustrating.

Same! I do not use safari on my Mac and have rarely used it on my IPad but use it constantly throughout the day on my phone. And just the the past 1-2 month I have noticed this. Just now, trying to good this issue and trying to open this thread - it took me 4 tries. Every time I tried to open as new tab it would open then automatically close. Finally it opened the site but it opened from my original tab.

i have also had this happen a lot - I will go back or forward to look up something and all the sudden the page will glitch and all the history is gone - I can no longer go back and when I go to history, the page I was on is not shown.

Its extremely frustrating! And I have manual close set on safari so I don’t understand why it keeps doing this

Hey I did this and it helped for a few weeks, but now the issue is back :( very sad as I opened my iPhone and found 20+ tabs gone.

this is driving me nuts does anyone have a solution? Why won’t apple address this, it’s actually very problematic as I have no way to recover the tabs.

Yes, I tried to clean the history and cache. Didn't help.

Weird. In my case safari tabs work on iPhone perfectly. But on MacBook and iMac it is a nightmare.

happened to me today safari closes my

newest tabs. when i open safari the screen goes black for a few seconds then opens to a tab that i have closed out numerous times and im on iphone: iOS 15.5

Tabs closes in 2-3 sec after cmd+shift+t

When i open safari theres always one google maps tab. I close the tab and search for something and when i close safari then always the same google map tab open. Whats sup w dat?
