Macbook Pro M1 Max Daisy Chain

Macbook Pro M1 Max, thunderbolt 4, want to daisy chain two Dell U2415, connected them like that (mac-thunderbolt4->monitor1-dp-in, monitor1-dp-out->monitor2-dp-in), but I've got just two mirrored displays. How to extend them instead?

I can connect two monitors to different thunderbolt 4 ports, but it's not what I want. I want to make a daisy chain connection as I described above: from mac thunderbolt 4 to DP-IN of monitor 1, from DP-OUT of monitor 1 to DP-IN of monitor 2.

When I did this, I've got mirrored displays, instead extended, and it can't be fixed from Display settings. Maybe there is another way?

Hi there inzheneher,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you're trying to connect 2 Dell monitors to your MacBook Pro. We'll be happy to help.

For guidance connecting displays with your Mac, check out this resource: Use an external display with your MacBook Pro. If you run into an error trying to connect an external display, let us know the details and we'll do our best to help resolve that.

Best regards.

he Mac does NOT support daisy-chaining over USB or DisplayPort. The "other way" that works is to use a supported configuration.

The first device must be a genuine ThunderBolt device, either a display or a dock, and it must use High-speed thunderBolt cables. If you use a dock, it must support two displays, since you already used up your one chance to daisy-chain.

Dear inzheneher,

MacOS does not support "DisplayPort MST", which is required for DisplayPort daisy chaining. DisplayPort MST allows a single DisplayPort interface to be carved up to run separate displays, but macOS doesn't allow that. The only displays that can be daisy chained on Macs are Thunderbolt displays, since Thunderbolt daisy chaining is a distinct entity.
