How do I sort folders in Gmail on MacOS Catalina? Why doesn't Apple fix this perpetual problem?

Every time I add a new folder to Gmail on my iMac with OS Catalina, it ends up at the bottom. I try to move a folder but holding it down and putting it where it should be, it pops back to its original spot. I can't believe Apple hasn't put through a fix for this.

Ahubz,

Understood, thank you for letting us know that you don't receive an error.

Do you use any other email accounts with the Mail app? If so, do you experience the same behavior with other accounts, or only the Gmail account? Does the same behavior occur when your Mac has been started up in safe mode? That can help us isolate this further.

Thank you!

Hello Ahubz,

We understand that you want to sort email and folders on your Mac, and we want to help.

Just to confirm, are you using your Gmail account with the Apple Mail app, the Gmail app, or another application?

If you're using the Apple Mail app, you can find some great information about organizing email on your Mac here: Organize email on your Mac

Take care!

Ahubz,

Thanks so much for following up with us, and letting us know more about the situation.

To help us get a better understanding of the issue, we’d like to ask a few more questions.

Just to confirm, do any errors ever appear when you try to move mailboxes in the sidebar in the Mail app? If so, what does the exact error say?

You also mentioned that you're using macOS Catalina; what is the exact version you're using? Here's how to confirm the version number: Find out which macOS your Mac is using

Thanks!

Thank you Brittany1416. I checked both your links, but they didn't address my problem. I may be using the wrong terminology. I am using a Gmail account with Apple Mail. Perhaps I should have said when I try to add a new mailbox ( I called it a folder before) to my sidebar under my Gmail account, it ends up at the bottom of my list of mailboxes within my Gmail account. Then if I try to move it to the correct place alphabetically within Gmail, it pops back to where it was. Basically I want to resort my mailboxes alphabetically under my Gmail account in Apple Mail. (The image looks like a folder which is why I called it a folder, but perhaps I should be calling these mailboxes?)

Thank you for your new response. Unfortunately, the link suggestions didn't work. I'm using Catalina 10.15.7. I don't get an error message. When I try to move a mailbox to another location all within Gmail, either holding down the Option button or not, a blue line appears and I put the blue line where I want the mailbox to be located. When I let go, the blue line disappears and the mailbox stays in its original location.

What is ironic, though, is that if I open a mailbox to access the subfolders (or sub mailboxes) inside, I can rearrange those all within the main mailbox. Why can't I do that with the main mailboxes under my Gmail account?
