My emails and messages are arriving. However, I’m unaware I have any new messages or emails as the little bubble is not showing a number anymore. Any suggestions?
The phone is an iPhone. SE2020
I have that button “on”. But I don’t care for notifications on Lock Screen, banner and Notification Center. Do they need to be on to get the bubble? This is an ongoing issue. It works and then stops. It’s most peculiar.

If you don't want alerts in the lock screen, Notifications center or banners , you can turn them off. It won't affect the appearance of Badges. It seems that you don't have an unread mail, so you didn't see badges.
You can make sure that badges work by going to the mail app and then choose any mail and withdraw to the north and do it as unread And you will see the badges
this is what I see.

please go to Settings > Notifications > Mail> and make sure this option is on .

Have you checked in settings under home screen there’s an option to enable bubble notifications for apps on the home screen. Maybe that got turned off by mistake?

yes that is correct. I would try to go into settings and the notifications and making sure that the badges are on for Mail and Messages?
I wish that had worked, but at present there are 12 unread messages in my inbox and I still have no bubble suggesting any unread mail.
Not sure which nefarious cyber villain to blame.

Please go to the settings >notifications > customize notifications And make sure the Badges is on for all of your accounts
