From past experience, I'll cut any faulty cable into pieces, then dispose of the pieces. Why? I've had folks pick bad cables out of the trash, then look for help getting those cables to work. Yes, really.

But in any case, chuck the cable. It's pretty clearly faulty.

Have you try to restart the iMac?

Restart both the Mac and the iPhone, and then check the Lightning socket on the iPhone for fuzz or debris, and try a different Lightning cable.

Yes, as long as it's an original Apple cable.
