Mac mini M1 Monterey 12.2 HDMI port doesn't wake from sleep

I've read a number of (now closed) threads related to sleep/wake issues for the HDMI port on M1 Mac minis.

There seem to be a lot (maybe a dozen?) of seemingly random approaches to solving the issue.

Before I try all those crazy suggestions, is there a real, repeatable solution to this yet?

Specifically, when my Mac mini M1 sleeps, the monitor connected to the HDMI port never wakes. A reboot is required to get that port and its connected monitor to wake.

This is a new development; it *roughly* corresponds to upgrading to 12.2, but I can't say that 12.2 has caused this.

This two-monitor Mac mini worked just fine for ~2 months prior to this recent bad behavior.

(I have second monitor connected to a USB-C port via a USB-C-DisplayPort cable.)

I have run mine without using "Prevent your mac from automatically sleeping when display is off" since I bought it. During the day I turn off the monitor, it has always turned back on with the Mac Mini running as it should. I think you have said this before, I wonder where you get your information?

Hi Bob, are you running a single or dual displays. I'm asking, because the OP and others are having issues where only one display in a dual display setup will wake or is slow to wake from Computer Sleep.

Very little, the displays use far more power than the idling Mac Mini. Generally I just let the displays turn off/sleep with the timer after 10 minutes and then manually sleep the computer from the dropdown menu each night.

If you have a problem with waking in the morning, then you may want/need to just shutdown at the end of each day and startup in the morning.

One display on HDMI a 24" Sceptre HD monitor running at 75Hz.. Late 2014 Mac Mini, with 512GB NVMe startup and 512GB SSD internal running Time Machine. One external 512GB SSB as backup. USB mouse and keyboard, a Bluray, CD and DVD external player. One four port USB-3 hub with a 110volt powered Epson printer and a 110volt powered 2TB Maxel HD for Archives. Bluetooth running my Phonac Compilot II for connection to my hearing aids receiver. Everything works.
