Does MBP mid 2012 adjust VRAM when fitted with 16GB memory

My MBP has the following graphics card; Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB. However, Photoshop sends this error: Insufficient VRAM: (1073 MB of 1500MB required). I'm perplexed by that. I ignore the message and continue into Photoshop so far no issues but I suspect when I have a very big file it may have an issue. I'm perplexed by this. Has anyone experienced the same warning message? And maybe found a solution?

dual graphics processors -- a NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1 GB of dedicated GDDR5 memory and an "integrated" Intel HD Graphics 4000 graphics processor that shares system memory

from:

So your assertion the "Shared System Memory" used as graphics memory should expand to accommodate the demands placed on it is accurate, BUT -- only for the Integrated Intel 4000 Graphics processor.

If you are doing graphics-intensive operations while plugged in, I would expect the NVIDIA Discrete Graphics processor to be called into service. It is much more capable, but has only about 1GB (1024MB) graphics memory.
