FaceTime privacy issue - traumatising.

I had a FaceTime video call with someone on my MacBook, and long after I finished (over an hour later) I noticed the little green FaceTime icon on the menu bar still green, when I clicked it, it was as if I was still connected and the microphone and video buttons appearing on!

I tried hanging up. It was stuck! It just wouldn’t go away, the FaceTime app itself wasn’t in the app bar.

I am very confused, and all around anxious beyond belief. i need to know if it really was still on!

Hello ashjgy,

Thanks for reaching out to us in Apple Support Communities about seeing the green light next to the camera after a FaceTime call. We're happy to help by looking into this more!

If the FaceTime app is open this light will appear as it has access to the camera. Here's a resource that explains this:

Don't close your MacBook, MacBook Air, or MacBook Pro with a cover over the camera - Apple Support

Closing the FaceTime app should resolve the issue and turn off the light:

Quit apps on Mac - Apple Support

If this doesn't would you can force close the app:

How to force an app to quit on your Mac - Apple Support

Hope this helps.

Best Regards.

The app and the webcam were not open/on (I don’t know whether the mic was on or not). But this was there. And the x button didn’t work. I couldn’t remove that green icon at all.

My menu bar usually disappears when I’m not using it which is why I didn’t see the FaceTime icon until it was too late.

I hope this clarifies the issue better.
