Audio Dropouts with Lightning to Headphone Adapter - "Forget all Adapters" is missing in Settings

I have big problems with Apple's standard Lightning to Headphone Adapter.

Every symptom hints to a bad connection - just tapping on the adapter's

3.5mm plug or heavily shaking my Iphone SE 2020 made it loose connection.

A popping toc-toc-toc sound can be heard on the headphones while

the iPhone tries to reconnect with the adapter.

The symptoms are independent of what kind of headphones are connected.

Unplugging and replugging helped for a short time, then the problem came back.

But it seems NOT to be a hardware problem!

After going into

Settings > Sounds and Haptics > Headphone Safety > Lighting Adapters >

and confirming "Forget all adapters" the problem was gone.

Flawless playback!

But after one day of use, the problem came back -

and "Forget all adapters" is suddenly missing from the menu!

Apple what have you done?
