If you have an Intel Mac, then Option Booting the Mac will show you a firmware lock if a firmware password is enabled.
AFAIK, there is no firmware lock for the newer M1 Macs.

You don't have to reboot; from the Terminal.app copy and paste:
sudo firmwarepasswd -check
(note: your admin psswd will not echo on screen, type it anyway, then use the enter/return key to proceed.)
