iTunes: unable to keep a changed library folder location on My Cloud Home

Changed library location to a folder on My Cloud Home and then library reorganises itself over time. However, once iTunes logged off an then on again iTunes reverts to a local folder and does not see the folder on My Cloud Home. This has previously been reported as a bug - is there any progress on addressing it?

You should not attempt to store any part of your iTunes library in iCloud Drive. iTunes isn't "aware" of cloud files and it can cause problems. As for storing the media folder in a different location recent versions of iTunes for Windows seem to have issues retaining this preference. See Make a split library portable - Apple Community and put the whole library on the drive you want to use in the standard portable shape which is unaffected by this particular bug.

Thanks for advice. Once the library location is set in iTunes for My Cloud Home, it works Ok. It is only when logged out and then back in again, that iTunes loses its preference for the library location and reverts back to the C drive. Don't really want to split library and would obviously prefer Apple to address this ongoing bug.

I believe you currently have a split library. When the library files are in the same location as the media folder, and that isn't ready for some reason, then when you launch iTunes it will complain that it cannot read the library. You cancel, fix the issue, and relaunch. With a split library in the same circumstances iTunes starts normally and then silently resets the media folder to iTunes Media in the location of the .itl file.

Thanks again. I think I now understand you and believe you are correct - the iTunes library.itl file is on my C drive and I am trying to place the media file on My Cloud Home as I previously did with My Cloud. As said, it works until I log off and on again. Either iTunes has changed or iTunes doesn't like My Cloud Home as it did with My Cloud. Pity.

Just a follow-up. Noticed that all my tunes can be seen and played in iTunes even though the library media file under advanced preferences shows the media file to be on my C drive. In other words, its picking up all the files from My Cloud Home OK even after logging off. It just doesn't show the location under settings. Guess I can live with it as long as I don't want to add more tunes.

It has been broken for a couple of years now, so its not looking good. A possible workaround is to temporarily install an older version of iTunes, say 12.6.5.3, set up the media folder with a new temporary library, then reinstall the current version and reconnect to your current library. I've heard this works, but isn't something I've personally tested.
