Monitor resolution changes after waking up from sleep in clamshell mode

I am using a 2018 Macbook Pro 13 inch (with 4 thunderbolt ports) with a Dell U2720Q 4K monitor.

My macbook is always in clamshell mode and my single USB-C cable charges the computer while connecting it to the display.

The issue I'm facing is that when I wake the computer up after it automatically goes into sleep, it would show a screen with a resolution of 800x600.

I have to disconnect/reconnect the cablet to make it come back to its original resolution.

I am currently on Catalina 10.15.7 and have my Display settings to "Scaled: Looks like 2560x1440"

I hope I could use my computer more conveniently without having to reconnect it every single time...

Hello there rhomyung,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you have an issue with the external display resolution when using clamshell mode and waking from sleep. Since the issue resolves after reconnecting the cable, we suggest following these steps to Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac and create a test user to see if the issue is user specific or system wide.

Let us know the results and take care!
