Apple displays with ProMotion

I got below information, and got some query.

Q1: Apple displays with ProMotion →Does it means When use apple displays with Promotion function, it will show "ProMotion" wording wiil show on Refresh Rate pop-up menu?


Q2: If Mac(MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2020, Four Thunderbolt 3 ports) connect to a non-apple display, Maybe like DELL with AMD free sync monitor, what it will show the wording on Refresh Rate pop-up menu?

Q3: How to let DELL monitor show ProMotion?

Q4: MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2020, Four Thunderbolt 3 ports can support AMD free sync?

Thanks for posting your question about ProMotion. The resource Change the refresh rate on your MacBook Pro or Apple Pro Display XDR was a good start.


You are correct that the compatible models listed in that article would show ProMotion in the Refresh Rate drop-down menu:


"On 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with Apple silicon, you can select ProMotion for an adaptive refresh rate up to 120Hz."


ProMotion refers to the refresh rate of the display, so you would only see that option with the models listed above. The refresh rate is specific to the display, so you wouldn't see a ProMotion option if you were using something like an external Dell display.
