Sending a photo from iPad by email

HELP! PLEASE HELP! I am trying to send a photo from my iPad as part of an Email. I brought up the photo, clicked the share icon, selected the photo, clicked the email option. The process of loading the photo to an email seemed to have started - the round thingie is going in circles - and that's it! The spinning continues and nothing happens. I cancelled the draft where I tried to send multiple photos and reduced it to one photo - no difference. I tried sending a simple email with no photo and it went through with no problem. I tried turning the iPad off and restarting. Nope! Can't get a photo to load. Any ideas?
