I try to watch a DVD movie

My Macbook Pro with Mojave doesn't have a Superdrive so I try to borrow the Superdrive of a Mac Pro and share it over Wi-Fi. I get problems. How can I know that an external Superdrive for my laptop will work when not a drive shared over Wi-Fi works? The movie can be watched on the Mac Pro without problems, but I want to watch it on the laptop.

Hi,

I went through this in the past and learned you cannot listen to music CDs or watch DVD or Blu-ray movies this way. I can't find the Apple citation, but the following from https://appleinsider.com/articles/18/04/14/how-to-use-another-computers-dvd-drive-across-a-network-with-macos-remote-sharing explains it:

"Apple also warns that this sort of usage is not suited for a number of disc types and tasks, such as playing audio CDs, DVD or Blu-ray movies over a network"

You'll need to purchase a dedicated drive for the laptop if you want to watch it there.
