MacOS 12 Monterey saying connected to printer but not printing

New MacMini with MacOS12 Monterey. All updates applied.

Installed the latest available Sharp MX-C300W printer drivers, which was for MacOS 11 Big Sur - consider this not a big jump to Monterey.

Added the printer - it recognises when the printer is in use or idle.

This device connects to the printer via its Web page and via CUPS.

Computers and printer are wireless to the same network.

However, the printer print queue, just shows "Printing - Connected to printer" but goes no further.

I can print to the same printer from the MacMini (Monterey) by adding a printer share to my old MacMini (Catalina) using the same printer drivers. This is while the direct route above is going nowhere!

I have done the following:

  1. Paused & Resumed the job in Printer Queue - no change
  2. Have tried different apps e.g. text edit, pdf - no success
  3. Compared the setup in old MacMini to new MacMini - no obvious differences
  4. Removed and a re-added the printer - no success
  5. Reset the Printer System and re-added printer - no success
  6. Re-installed the printer after deleting all printer Libraries - no success
  7. (How's this for desperation) Turned off "Limit IP Address Tracking" in the off chance it was interfering - no success

So except for the printer driver, have I missed something in new security settings etc that may be not letting print jobs to go via the direct route.

Thanks, in anticipation of a successful resolution.

Update: I have, only today 23 Mar 2022, received the updated drivers from Sharp for MacOS Monterey.

Duly loaded them and .... ... ... nothing has changed. :-(

I still get the following when trying to add/connect via Protocol = IPP on the Monterey mac, even thought it can detect it with the correct IP address for the printer.

This is the same Protocol used on the Catalina mac.

However, when I was looking at the printer via its Webpage (from the Monterey mac mind you!) I noticed that it had a LPD server port.

Decided to add the printer via the Protocol = LPD (Line Printer Daemon) and

it set up the printer and I printed a Test page directly from the Monterey mac. Yes!! :-)

Here is the question: why has IPP as a protocol suddenly stopped functioning or being able to communicate to the printer but LPD works?

Hi,

Is it possible to choose a generic postscript (or PCL) printer under Use: ? If so, any change for the "direct route" network connection?

Add a printer to your printer list so you can use it on Mac – Apple Support (UK)

According to the specifications, the MX-C300W supports PS3 (and PCL6):

No, still was not able to connect.

No difference.

Decided to wait for Sharp's response to updated Monterey drivers.

I was reflecting further on this overnight in relation to an observation made in my original post

I can print to the same printer from the MacMini (Monterey) by adding a printer share to my old MacMini (Catalina) using the same printer drivers.

Why does/can Monterey print to the same printer via printer sharing on a machine with Catalina?

Doesn't Monterery need to use either the drivers installed in itself?

Note: When adding the printershare, it used the drivers installed in Monterey (which are Big Sur).

Or use the drivers from Catalina?

In either case it suggests that the drivers may not be the problem. (I might try installing the Catalina driver on Monterey to test this).

I would like to posit that it is a different communication problem for the direct route but I cannot see what that might be.

Any further thoughts much appreciated.
