Video Playback Speed

Having issues enhancing the speed of videos (i.e. 1.5x, 1.75x, 2x) through any service- Vimeo, YouTube, online classes- they all give the option, it works for half a second, and then goes back to normal speed, even if the desired speed is still selected. Can anyone help me with this, please? New iMac, version 12.0.1

EDIT: Just learned it works on Safari, not Chrome. So guess this is a Chrome issue. But, any help would still be great.
