iMac shows up in adding HomeKit accessories?

Hello all.

I recently got a newer iMac and was finally able to upgrade to the latest macOS. Tonight I was adding a new device to my Home when I saw that my iMac showed up with a speaker icon in the add accessories menu. When I tapped it, it almost immediately jumped to “Unable to Add Accessory - Make sure your iPhone is connected to Wi-Fi, then try pairing again.”

Are you able to connect an iMac as a HomeKit device or is this just a glitch? Again, never seen this before and didn’t find much when I looked this up.

Hello Owen_1001,

Thanks for reaching out to us in Apple Support Communities about adding an iMac to HomeKit. We're happy to help by looking into this more!

You can't add an iMac to HomeKit as an accessory. It appears that HomeKit is recognizing that your iMac is acting as an AirPlay speaker. While you can AirPlay to your iMac, it can't be added to HomeKit.

Make your have the latest official version of iOS installed on your device. As per this writing the current version is iOS 15.3.1:

Hope this helps.
