Why am I not allowed to download High Sierra, Mojave, Catalina, Big Sur?

Had Big Sur on a MacBook Pro. Caught virus in Dec of 21. Am just now able to clean laptop but an not being allowed to download anything more recent than Sierra. While attempting to update Sierra I am told that no updates are available. But am still not allowed to download High Sierra, Mojave, Catalina or Big Sur.

Any help will be appreciated.

Updates apply the outstanding fixes to the current major version, ONLY. To change to a different major version, you need an UPGRADE.

Except in the case where the next major version becomes available, these are generally not supplied automatically because they are more complex and have additional requirements. In some cases, you computer may not be eligible to run the newer Upgrade

Having a Trusted, local disk-based backup on hand before you begin is a firm requirement.

in many cases, there will be major changes by doing such an upgrade. There is no UNDO for these upgrades, and the only way to go back is by using your backup to restore your files.

Links to the downloads are available in this article, which reiterates the requirement of having a Backup before you begin:
