Swipe back function on Safari won't recognize the first swipe

When I use two fingers to use the back button gesture on my Mac the first swipe doesn't fully initiate the gesture. The web page moves to the side as if it wants to then bounces right back. It might take a few tries for the gesture to register completely. I've been using a Mac for a while and have always used this feature and am just now noticing difficulty with this gesture. And no don't suggest to swipe more as that just isn't helpful.

Is there any way to turn up the sensitivity of gestures? As this is infuriating.
