Using Google Translate Conversation offline on iPhone
QUESTION: CAN GOOGLE TRANSLATE -CONVERSATION MODE- BE USED ON AN iPHONE WHEN IT IS OFFLINE?(WITHOUT WIFI or DATA)
Background: I will be traveling to Europe in this year and I am looking for a reliable translation app on my iPhone 12 that I can use offline (without using data or WiFi).
I want to be able to have a “conversation”, where I can speak into the phone and have it translate into text and voice. I read that Google Translate is a good app for this (even offline), so I followed the offline instructions and downloaded the languages I needed on the app.
The app worked great when I was connected to WiFi. So I disabled the WiFi & cellular on my iPhone, typed a sentence in English and it translated fine. But when I tried to start a spoken conversation, I got a pop up that read:
“Network Error:
Google Translate was unable to
establish a network connection tofulfill your request. Please check your network connection and try again.”
Frustrating. FYI, the Apple Translate app DOES work offline, but it doesn’t have all the features (like Sign Translation) that Google Translate has.
Any advice is appreciated.
